Ladies Day has become an institution in the fashion calendar on Merseyside. With the racing taking almost second place to the fashion stakes.
The Grand National, there is no doubt, is fabulous for our city… But seeing really is believing when it comes to Ladies Day.
NOTHING will stop the ladies wearing their chosen outfits, not freezing winds, the threat of snow, or dull grey skies!!! Literally months go into the preparations – there is the hair (colour and restyle), the nails, the spray tans, the hats, the bags the shoes, the make-up, the underwear, the after races entertainment….. (I am exhausted just thinking about the effort!!)….
I have to say I was REMARKABLY well behaved this year (well I was a guest of friends so did not want to let them down).
I had plenty to eat and drink, had a wonderful day, but managed to stay in control of my faculties…. JUST!!.
When I was leaving Aintree I had a little chat with a policeman on the exit gates. “You have got a good job here” I smirked.
“You would not believe it love!!” he smiled back…. Oh I spent the day there officer – and I really do believe it!
Congratulations to all the ladies who looked gorgeous – To those who wore skirts too short, tan too orange, extensions a different colour to your natural colour, corset tops with breasts too large…. Etc….. what were you thinking of????
By the way, I chose a boring linen suit and silk scarf…. For comfort!!
